If I do nothing else for Mothers' Day (and now that the Spring Semester madness is over, I will try post more stuff before my 3-week hiatus of Papal and non-Papal shenanigans in Rio de Janeiro with 
I PROMISE) I wanted to draw something featuring Silvia Salgueiro. Mostly because I had not posted anything with her till now.
Who is Silvia? Dr. Paulo Pereira's first love, of course! [link]
Silvia was an orphan slightly older than Paulo who lived and worked at the winery neighboring his grandparents' dairy farm in Sanfins de Figueiras, Portugal. She and Paulo were great friends, and he always looked forward to summers spent in her company in Sanfins. That friendship would blossom into a short-lived romance fueled by adolescent hormones, confusion, experimentation and the boredom of country living. Shortly before leaving to start his freshman term at Oxford, Paulo had left Silvia with... well, an unexpected phenomenon -- one she named "Camilo" when he arrived in June of 1983 and of who's existence she never informed her former friend (with benefits). She selfishly carried the secret of Camilo's paternity to her grave, and it was by sheer chance that father and son were ever united. Paulo lost contact with her shortly after starting college.
In the mean time, Silvia worked in vineyards throughout the world. Mother and son traveled for work to such places as Spain, France, South Africa, Chile, and eventually settling in Sonoma Valley, California as Silvia's career in the wine industry advanced. Camilo is an alumnus of Sonoma Valley High School. He played special teams (starting kicker) varsity football (and basketball) for the Dragons and was even granted an athletic scholarship to Stanford University, but lost it due to a career-ending knee injury shortly before the end of his senior season. He would end up studying Hospitality and Management at City College of San Francisco until an unfortunate drug-related incident would end that endeavor as well as their lives in the United States.
Featured here is a walk home with Mãe after a loss on a pretty autumn afternoon. What else are mom's for, anyway?!

Aww--so sweet! For all of her faults (Who is perfect anyway?) Silvia truly loves her son and is a good mother. I really like how you've drawn teen Camilo!
